Job positions in Offshore industry


Jobs in the offshore industry and in particular in the sector associated with oil and gas can be divided into several categories: Earth works, design and construction, mounting and installation, operation and management.


Unlike ships, where the hierarchy of positions are strictly followed in each job classification is established by STCW (International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers), the number of positions in the offshore industry may not be strictly observed, it is possible for a smaller platforms and facilities to certain persons can perform more than one of these positions.

  • Automation systems specialist-configure, maintain, and repair systems for process control (DCS), safety systems, emergency systems and systems for the management of vessels;

  • Process Engineer

  • Well Head Engineers

  • Ballast Control Operator

  • Control Room Operators

  • Production Technicians

  • Maintenance Technicians

  • Field Technicians

  • Instrument Technicians

  • Offshore Piping Designers

  • QC Inspectors

  • Crane Operators

  • Second mate and Third mate-busy loading and unloading, meets the requirements of the flag

  • Crane operators-operate cranes and lifting equipment;

  • Scaffolders-built scaffolding and temporary structures to the needs of the installation;

  • Coxswains-charge of maintenance of safety equipment;

  • Control room operators,-mainly for facilities such as FPSO and FSO;

  •  Pump Operator

  •  Catering crew;

  •  Production techs to run the production plant;

  •  Helicopter pilot-one of the platforms, responsible for moving the crew to shore;

  • Offshore Pipefitters
